Hearing Tonight for Proposed LNG Port

Hearing will be at the Allegria Hotel at 6 p.m.

Local environmental groups are expected to attend a press conference and public hearing in Long Beach Tuesday night to voice their opposition to plans to build the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) deepwater port.

Catskills Citizens for Safe Energy, Clean Ocean Action, Concerned Citizens of Montauk, Food and Water Watch, Riverkeeper, Surfrider Foundation and others will be in attendance.

The proposed LNG facility called ‘Port Ambrose’ is being pitched by Liberty Natural Gas and would be stationed about 19 miles south off Jones Beach in Wantagh. Pipelines for the project would also be installed 2.5 miles from Long Beach and Atlantic Beach, according to Sean Dixon, coastal policy attorney for Clean Action Ocean.

The conference will be held at the Allegria Hotel, third floor conference room at 5:15 p.m. The hearing will be at 6 p.m. in the second floor conference room. Liberty Natural Gas representatives will also be in attendance.
