Holocaust Survivor Meets Liberator By Chance

Maurice Vegh of Long Beach talks about his horrific imprisonment at Buchenwald before Harold Rosen helped liberate the concentration camp.

Maurice Vegh was at the brink of death at Buchenwald concentration camp in April 1945 when Harold “Hank” Rosen and his unit, the 87th Infantry Division, liberated him and his fellow camp mates from their would-be Nazi killers.

The prisoner, who now lives in Long Beach, and his liberator met 66 years later, by chance, at a barbecue at a Bristal Assisted Living Community in North Woodmere last September. Vegh tells the Long Beach Hearld about his meeting with Rosen, as well as details of his horrific imprisonment at Buchenwald.
