Images of Long Beach 2013

2013 has been a busy year in Long Beach, with many events and activities that lent themselves to a photographer’s camera or smartphone.

As the city continued to rebuild after Hurricane Sandy, all eyes were on the boardwalk, as the 2.2-mile structure underwent many transitions, from demolition of the prior decking to rebuilding with tropical hardwood. The city landscape was also altered by the many storm-damaged homes that needed to elevate eight feet or higher above ground. Other new sights included a flying trapeze and a Crossfit competition on the Foundation Block, as well as Stars of Hope posted throughout town.

Of course, the city also continued its many traditions, including the droves of people who attend the Polar Bear Splash on Super Bowl Sunday (this year, on Grand Boulevard beach) and the Michele O’Neill Foundation volleyball tourney in September.

Patch caught images of all these and more, as well as some Long Beach standards, surfers and seagulls, for this years Images of Long Beach. (Click on a photo to enlarge it and to activate the photo gallery.)
