Long Beach High School Students Make Armbands for Quicksilver 9/11 Paddle Out
WHAT: In cooperation with the Quicksilver Pro New York Competition, Long Beach High School students will be doing their part to commemorate 9/11 by making black armbands. The armbands will be worn by Long Beach High School Surf Club members, Quicksilver Pro competitors, firefighters, police, lifeguards, and military as they take part in a 9/11 Memorial Paddle Out on Sunday morning during the Quicksilver Pro New York competition.

Olympic Snowboarder Torah Bright Visits Long Beach High School
Quicksilver Pro New York Surfers to Join Her
WHAT: In conjunction with the Quicksilver Pro New York Competition, Olympic Snowboarder Torah Bright will be visiting Long Beach High School physical education classes to speak with students about professional sports. She will be joined by some of the professional surfers who are competing at the Quicksilver Pro New York competition in Long Beach.

Quicksilver Hurricane Cleanup
LBHS Surf Club and Quicksilver pitch in to clean storm-damaged
Magnolia Playground
WHAT: Long Beach High School Surf Club members will be joining forces with Quicksilver to help the City of Long Beach cleanup up the Magnolia Street Park—a children’s playground at the boardwalk in Long Beach that was damaged by Tropical storm Irene. Students are participating in this event as a living memorial to their Surf Club coach, teacher and community activist Daniel Bobis who died this summer in a tragic surfing accident of the coast of Indonesia. While the Quicksilver Pro New York Competition has been in Long Beach, the Surf Club also received VIP passes to the qualifying rounds, surfed with some of the pros, and will participate in a 9/11 Paddle Out.

LBHS Surf Team Joins 9/11 Memorial Paddle Out at Quicksilver Competition
WHAT: Long Beach High School Surf Club members will be joining forces with over 300 Quicksilver Pro surfers, firefighters, police, lifeguards and members of the military for a 9/11 Memorial Paddle Out to honor those lost on 9/11. The participants will paddle out on the ocean in Long Beach and join together to form a memorial circle. Students are also participating in this event as a living memorial to their Surf Club coach, teacher and community activist Daniel Bobis who died this summer in a tragic surfing accident of the coast of Indonesia.
