Long Beach Hosts 9/11 Memorials

Paddle Out among city events that will remember those killed in terrorists' attacks.

The City of Long Beach will host the following 9/11 memorials and events.

Sept. 9

  • 3 p.m. - 9/11 Memorial at West Beech Street and Virginia Avenue. Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford will lead this memorial.  

Sept. 10

  • 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Michelle O’Neill Volleyball Tournament at Grand Boulevard beach. (Thousands play volleyball at this annual event that is a fundraiser for people stricken with cancer.)
  • 10 a.m. - Memorial Brotherhood Walk (O’Keefe) at National Boulevard boardwalk (Honors those who were killed on 9/11).
  • 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Spirit Rider Regatta at National Boulevard beach  (O'Keefe Foundation in honor of those who were killed on 9/11).
  • 12 to 4 p.m. - Freedom Flight Kite Tribute at Neptune Boulevard beach (Hundreds of kites are flown over the beach and ocean as a 9/11 memorial).

Sept. 11

  • 9 a.m. – 9/11 Fireman’s Memorial at West Park Avenue and Lafayette Boulevard. (Firefighters honor the fallen.)
  • 10 a.m. – Beach mass and ecumenical service at National Boulevard beach.
  • 10:30 a.m. – Paddle Out with fire department, police department, military and lifeguards at National Boulevard beach (to honor the fallen on 9/11).
