Man Hospitalized After Atlantic Beach Deck Collapse
Officials say the man was attempting to make repairs to the deck when it collapsed.

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.Y. — A man was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center Thursday after his head was injured in a deck collapse at 41 Montgomery Blvd. in Atlantic Beach, fire department officials say.
The Long Beach Fire Department said in a Facebook post that the man was attempting to make repairs on the deck when it collapsed. The man was treated for head trauma at the scene before being taken by ambulance to the foot of the Atlantic Beach Bridge. From there, the department said, he was airlifted by a police helicopter to NUMC.
Long Beach Building Commissioner Scott Kemins, who was on the scene as a member of the Long Beach Fire Department, said in a Friday morning call that the Atlantic Beach Building Department was investigating the incident, adding that the Town of Hempstead and the City of Long Beach were not involved in the investigation.
