Here are five things you need to know for Monday:

1. Bookworms may want get in on the Great Books Discussion series at Long Beach Library starting at 2:30 p.m., when the talk will center on The Tropic of Cancer, Henry Miller’s infamous work that was originally banned in France on grounds that it was obscene.

2. The Long Beach Catholic Regional School will hold report card conferences with teachers in attendance from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.

3. If Latin dancing is in your blood, why not head over to the Allegria Hotel each Monday for Salsa Night from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m.? Both the music and complimentary dance instruction start at 7:30 p.m.

4. Later on Long Beach Patch: The City Council approved the construction and lease of a sports facility at the Ice Arena, but not before there was considerable debate over the issue. Return later for the story.
