National Grid Replacing Gas Main on Long Beach Blvd.
Work expected to take up to four weeks to complete.
Traffic has backed up on Long Beach Boulevard this week as National Grid rips up the road along its northern stretch to replace a gas main.
According to Wendy Ladd, a National Grid spokesperson, workers are replacing about 1,110 feet of 12-inch main on the boulevard, starting at the East Hudson Street intersection and working south to East Walnut Street. The project that began March 5 is expected to take three to four weeks to complete, Ladd said.
The City of Long Beach on Wednesday did not return a request for information about this ongoing project.
National Grid's last major project in Long Beach was in November, when workers installed a gas main from Shore Road, at Pacific Boulevard, to Executive Towers, a 280-unit apartment complex at 854 on E. Broadway.
