The resident superintendent of the Oceanside Jewish Center was arrested Monday after allegedly stealing more than $20,000 worth of religious artifacts from the temple between October 2012 to March 2013.
According to Nassau County detectives, Alexander Membreno, 30, resided in a building on the temple grounds, located at 2860 Brower Ave.
Police say an investigation revealed that Membreno pawned many of the "numerous" stolen items for cash at a local pawn shop.
The investigation is ongoing.
Membreno is being charged with two counts of grand larceny in the third degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
