Three first-time candidates, Matthew Adler, Jes Bellsey and Elizabeth Treston, are vying for the seat of incumbent Roy Lester, the board’s president, and all will partake in a candidates forum at the Long Beach Library, at 111 W. Park Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m. May 6. The Long Beach Central Council PTA will host the forum that involves written questions submitted from the public for each candidate to answer.

Lester, 63, is an attorney who seeks a fourth term on the board; Adler, 38, is math teacher at Seaford High School and a parent of two young children enrolled in the Long Beach district; Treston, 53, was a project director for 10 years at TRAID, a state grant program that offers technology for people with disabilities; Bellsey, 33, is a former substitute teacher in the Long Beach district who now works as a trade show and special projects coordinator.

The at-large election will be held May 21, the same day the community will vote on the district’s proposed $123 million budget for 2013-14, which represents a 1.3 percent increase over the current spending plan.
