Patch Question: King Kullen Coming?
Will you shop at the new supermarket just over the bridge in Island Park?
Work is underway to build a King Kullen and adjoining shopping center in Island Park, just over the Michael Valente Memorial Long Beach Bridge.
The supermarket is the centerpiece of this 62,675-square-foot development, at 80 Waterfront Blvd., neighboring Bridgeview Yacht Club, Jordan’s Lobster Farms, Paddy McGees and Coyote Grill. King Kullen is expected to open later this year, according to the Oceanside/Island Park Herald.
Long Beach’s three supermarkets — Associated in the East End, C-Town in the West End and Waldbaum’s in the center of town — will have to compete with this new supermarket immediately over the bridge. Or will they? Will grocery shoppers from Long Beach drive to a neighboring town for their milk, bread and eggs? Are their Island Park counterparts who shop at Long Beach supermarkets going to "shop local" instead?
