The early effects of Hurricane Sandy are being felt in Long Beach, pelting the barrier island with high winds and rain as she prepares to make landfall sometime later Monday. Patch photographer Joley Welkowitz braved the storm during the 1 p.m. hour today, taking snapshots of the ocean's high and breaking waves, the desolate and boarded-up streets, and flooding at a beach entrances.
