Sandy-Damaged West End Parking Lot to Get Facelift

A West End municipal parking lot that sustained damages during Hurricane Sandy will soon get a facelift.

The Long Beach City Council approved Tuesday a $64,200 contract with Roadwork Ahead, a Westbury-based company, to remove and dispose an existing damaged wall and interior asphalt pavement and install a new wall, asphalt, sidewalk and driveway at the lot, located at the southeast corner of Connecticut Avenue and West Beech Street, adjacent to Kings Pharmacy.

Corey Klein, the city’s attorney, who led Tuesday’s meeting in City Manager Jack Schnirman’s absence, said “The asphalt itself in essence was torn up during the storm.”

A legislative memo accompanying the resolution stated that funding for the project “is being sought through public assistance grant monies from [the Federal Emergency Management Agency].”
