Shark Spotted At Lido Beach; Swimmers Evacuated

It's not clear if the beach at Town Park will be open for swimming on Tuesday, the town said

LIDO BEACH, NY — A shark was spotted on Monday at Town Park in Lido Beach, a spokesperson for Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin said.

The shark was approximately seven feet in length and lifeguards saw it 25 feet from the shore.

Swimmers were evacuated immediately. As of Monday evening, the beach at Lido Beach was "red-flagging"— no swimming until further notice, the town announced.
