Shine's Centennial Celebration
Shine’s, the longest-running bar and business in Long Beach, at 55 California St. and West Beech Street, will hold a belated centennial celebration starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, a year after Hurricane Sandy spoiled their party plans.

Olympic Gold Medalist at MLK
Derrick Adkins, a Long Island track standout who won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics, will present a talk “Keys To Success,” at the Martin Luther King Center, 615 Riverside Blvd., at 7 p.m. Nov. 19. For information, call the MLK at 516-889-6300.

The Long Beach City Council will hold a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 1 W. Chester St. Go here for the meeting agenda.
The West End Neighbors Civic Association will hold a regular meeting at the West End Community Center, 90 Maryland Ave., at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting will feature two speakers: John McNally, co-chair of the New York Rising Long Beach Community Reconstruction Zone Planning Committee; and Kelly Sullivan of From Imagine Long Beach, a mechanism for people to share their dreams on how to rebuild our city better, stronger and more vibrant.
