Threat to Long Beach District Office Discredited

The Nassau County and Long Beach police departments determined there is no danger to student or staff population.

LONG BEACH, NY - An email threat sent to the Long Beach Public Schools district office was discredited Thursday.

The Nassau County and Long Beach police departments determined that the threat, which suggested endangerment to all districtwide buildings, was not credible and there is no danger to the student or staff population, according to a release by district Superintendent David Weiss.

“The district is committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” the release stated. “As an extra precautionary measure, there will be an increased police presence and heightened security.”

This threat was made only a week after a Long Beach High School student was arrested for writing a threat on a classroom desk, Patch previously reported.

That 15-year-old student was arrested last week and arraigned Wednesday.

“The district does not tolerate such threats, pranks and rumors,” said Weiss in a previous interview. “We suggest parents talk to their children about the severity of such behaviors and the potential long-term negative consequences associated with such actions.”
