Uber Driver Threatens Would-Be Passenger With Gun In Nassau: Police

James Watson is charged with second-degree menacing and criminal possession of a firearm, police say.

ATLANTIC BEACH, NY — A Roosevelt man, working as an Uber driver, was arrested over the weekend after threatening a woman with a handgun and refusing to let her in his vehicle, police said.

James Watson, 63, threatened the 30-year-old victim just after 11:30 p.m. on Saturday in Atlantic Beach, police said.

Fearing for her safety, the victim canceled the ride and Watson fled the scene. Officers located him near the intersection of Nassau Expressway and Park Street, where they initiated a traffic stop, authorities said.

While conducting an investigation, officers recovered a handgun and placed Watson under arrest without further incident, police said.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
