West Islip High School girls varsity wins and takes Class AA title for second consecutive year.

West Islip High School’s varsity girls soccer team won the Suffolk County championship Nov. 4, taking the Class AA title for the second year in a row. Finishing the season with an overall record of 16-2-3, the Lions also earned New York State Scholar-Athlete team status.

Rolling through the opposition in this year’s playoffs, the team defeated Northport 1-0 in the county semifinals Nov. 2, winning in penalty kicks after playing three grueling overtimes. They then beat Hauppauge in overtime 1-0 to win the county title on Nov. 4 at the Dowling College Sports Complex in Shirley.

Coach Nick Grieco also received Coach of the Year honors for both League III and Suffolk County.
