Graffiti Found Defacing Campaign Signs, American Flag In Nassau: Police

Police are investigating the graffiti, which was found on a flag and on campaign signs for 3 candidates in the upcoming election.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — Graffiti was found on an American flag and three campaign signs in Nassau County, police said.

According to Nassau County police, the incident is regarded as criminal mischief. The graffiti was first reported to the department at 2:18 p.m. Monday, police said. Officers from the fifth precinct responding to the call found the flag and a trio of campaign signs defaced with red markings, police added.

Images circulated by Nassau County police show signs supporting the reelection campaign of Hempstead Town Supervisor John Ferretti and the County Legislator campaign of Sheharyar Ali defaced with red Xs, police said. The images show a sign supporting the reelection of Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman covered in red lettering that spelled out, “Free Gaza," police said.

The flag had been defaced with "profane" anti-ICE messaging, police said.
