Nassau Residents Recognized For School Achievements

Several students were named honorees of the Dean's List with Distinction Award.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Levittown resident Ryan Giles is among 1,000 new students who completed the first semester at Eastern Connecticut State University.

Giles is a freshman majoring in Physical Education.

Lynbrook's Kiernan Morgan recently graduated from SUNY Potsdam's Law Enforcement Training Institute. It provides students with rigorous pre-employment, state-approved police training as part of their undergraduate curriculum. Morgan was among a cohort of 19 pre-employment police cadets and three hired peace officer cadets who started training in August at SUNY Potsdam.

Sara Garcia, a member of the Colgate University Class of 2024, has earned the spring 2022 Dean's Award with Distinction.

Garcia, who hails from Glen Cove, is a Psychological Science at the college located in Hamilton, New York. She's a graduate of Glen Cove High School.

Colgate University also announced spring Dean's Award with Distinction for Vernon McDermott, from Sands Point; Emily Kraus and Elizabeth McDermott, from Port Washingt0n.

Also, from Port Washington, Kate Magocsi was part of the cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. They performed "The Wild Party," a show filled with wildly eccentric characters set in the roaring 1920s with an extraordinary jazz score.

Five East Rockaway High School volleyball players were recognized for outstanding
athletic achievement by the Nassau County Volleyball Coaches Association.

Senior Julia Passanisi (All-County Honorable Mention and All-State), senior Julia Walsh (All-County and All-State), senior Keira O'Neill (All-Tournament), junior Stephanie Lynch (All-Tournament) and senior Clare Acuti (Scholar-Athlete) were honored at an awards ceremony on Dec. 12.
