Nassau Community College proudly announces that Jessialy Avilez, a student and president of the Student Government Association (SGA), has been awarded the New York State Sheriffs’ Institute 2024 Criminal Justice Scholarship.

The NYS Sheriffs’ Institute Scholarship Program provides a $500 scholarship annually to one criminal justice major from each of New York’s community colleges and SUNY Canton. Established to support students pursuing careers in criminal justice, the program selects recipients each fall through nominations by criminal justice faculty.

“Learning occurs in relationships, and I am inspired by Jessialy’s sustained record of academic excellence and service to our campus, making her worthy of this distinct honor,” said Robert Costello, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Criminal Justice. “It is a testament to Jessialy and her bright future.”
