The Uniondale School District recently presented their innovative approach to strategic planning at the New Orleans School Board Association Conference. The session, titled "Coherence in Action: Unleashing the Power of the District Strategic Plan," highlighted the District’s dedication to fostering continuous improvement and effective governance.

"Uniondale School District has a commitment to coherence in all facets of our strategic plan," said Superintendent Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil. "Setting goals is a key role, but it’s also about creating a living document that propels us forward and involves every member of our community."

The workshop—facilitated Dr. Mary Bediako, Adelina Blanco-Harvey, Superintendent Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil, and Matthew Ritter, Assistant Superintendent for Assessment, Data, and Accountability, —provided actionable insights into how strategic plans can be dynamically employed to enhance a school district’s operations and educational outcomes.

The session objectives were clear-cut, focusing on the utilization of strategic planning to cultivate continuous improvement within the District, setting priorities, and developing critical "look fors" in classroom, building, and District practices. The session also detailed the role of the BOE trustees in steering the implementation process and underscored the importance of creating a public scoreboard to transparently track progress and engage the community.

"I am overjoyed with our Board of Education for the work they’ve done,” said Dr. Mary Bediako, President of Uniondale’s Board of Education. “As a board, we are really proud of the work that we’ve been able to accomplish as a team but also that our schools and staff are doing together to implement this change for children."
