WABC New York will honor Music Radio Pioneer Cousin Brucie

WABC/New York is throwing a huge party to honor the one and only Cousin Brucie (aka Bruce Morrow), a true legend in the world of music radio. Can you believe he's been entertaining listeners for over sixty years? That's seriously impressive!

So, mark your calendars because this awesome event is happening this Thursday, September 7 right in the heart of New York City. And let me tell you, it's going to be a celebration like no other.

But that's not all. WABC is also celebrating a whopping 102 years of broadcasting to millions of listeners in the greater New York City area. And here's the best part - thanks to streaming, podcasting, and the WABC mobile app, people from all around the world can tune in and join the party too. How cool is that?

Now, here's a little backstory for you. The owner of WABC, John Catsimatidis, had a dream. He wanted to bring back the glory days of 77WABC with amazing programming and big-name personalities. And you know who he called? That's right, Cousin Brucie! He knew that Cousin Brucie belonged right where he started - on 77WABC.

And guess what? Catsimatidis made it happen. When he bought 77WABC in March of 2020, one of the first things he did was bring back Cousin Brucie. Can you believe it? On September 5, 2020, Cousin Brucie made his triumphant return to his original radio home, hosting the Saturday Night Rock & Roll Party. Talk about a comeback!

So get this, Cousin Brucie has been in the radio game since way back in 1961. That's right around the time when rock and roll music started taking off, and a few years before the British Invasion brought us iconic bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Kinks. Cousin Brucie was the dude who connected fans to this new music and the bands that were rocking it.

You know what else he did? He teamed up with Ed Sullivan to introduce The Beatles at that insane Shea Stadium concert on August 15, 1965. Talk about a legendary moment in rock history!

But Cousin Brucie's radio journey didn't stop there. In the 80s and 90s, he could be heard on WCBS-FM, New York's Oldies station at the time. And get this - he even had his own syndicated show called "Cruisin' America," where he introduced himself to listeners all across the country. That's some serious reach right there.

And just when you thought he couldn't get any cooler, in 2005 Cousin Brucie launched his own weekly programs on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. Talk about staying ahead of the game!

He was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame back in 1988, and then again into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2001. Oh, and he even got an honorary doctorate from Montclair State University for being an absolute boss in broadcasting.
