Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- Police are searching for the suspect in an attempted rape on Jan. 14 inside the 14th Street subway station. The suspect punched the 45-year-old victim in the arm and attempted to assert her before other subway passengers intervened. Police released a sketch of the suspect on Saturday, Feb. 5.(PIX11)
- The Coalition United for Equitable Urban Policy, an alliance of neighborhood associations, organized a protest in order to combat the city's Open Restaurants initiative. The program was heavily promoted by former Mayor Bill de Blasio as a means to ease pandemic pressure on the restaurant industry. Many residents feel that the negative aspects of the program far outweigh the benefits. (Bowery Boogie)
- The owner of Cabin NYC is looking to open a new bar and restaurant, called Clock Out, at 191 Orchard St. The dormant Hell Square storefront was previously occupied by the Sixth Ward until its closing in 2015. The property has seen the rise and downfall of numerous nightlife-oriented establishments in the seven years since. (Bowery Boogie)
