World's Best Pizza List Puts This NYC Joint In Second Place
It's first place in our hearts.

NEW YORK CITY — Global media company Time Out has definitively ranked its 19 best pizzas in the world, and, to no one's surprise, Scarr's Pizza, a cult-favorite slice shop on the Lower East Side, is on the list.
Scarr's Pizza, which was opened in 2016 by New Yorker Scarr Pimentel, comes in second place on the list below only Pizzeria da Attilio in Naples, Italy, which has been open since 1938, Time Out reports.
What makes Scarr's Pizza a cut above the rest is the stone-milled flour that goes into the dough, according to the Time Out ranking.

Pimentel mills the grain for his dough by hand, creating an airy and tangy thin crust — classic New York style — that can hold lots of toppings, Morgan Carter, a food and travel writer at Time Out, wrote.
"I’m a bit of a pizza purist," Carter wrote. "Don’t get me wrong — I’ve happily sunk my teeth into slices covered in kimchi, brisket and oxtail. But the real test of greatness, especially in New York, is how good your slice of cheese is. Can you do something simple and do it well? Scarr’s Pizza is one such pizzeria that gives justice to the original."

Scarr's Pizza was nominated specifically for its classic cheese slice. But, if you can't make the trek to Orchard Street, you can learn how to make the iconic recipe from Pimentel's new cookbook, which just came out on March 25.
Scarr's Pizza is located at 35 Orchard St.
