Manhattan Bridge 'VOTE' Sign Spurs 3 Arrests, Cops Say

CHINATOWN, NY — Three political activists are in custody after trying to unfurl a banner on the Manhattan Bridge with the word "VOTE" on it, police said.

The women attempted to hang the white sheet on the north side of the bridge at 6:23 a.m. Monday, a police spokesman said.

Progressive political group Flo Kennedy Society claimed responsibility for the morning stunt, saying it conveyed a "simple but strong message against a bright pink background: VOTE."

Organizers urged New Yorkers to head to the pols Tuesday for the midterm elections in a statement.

"We have marched in the streets, been shackled at protests, raised our voices in the halls of power, and organized our sisters and brothers of the resistance around us," read the statement.

"We know you are exhausted. We know you feel defeated. But we implore you: give your last ounce of energy in service to your nation and show up at the polls this Tuesday.”

The group is named after Florynce Kennedy who was a feminist, civil rights activist and a lawyer who died in 2000 at 84-years-old.

The activists were unable to fully unroll the banner before authorities arrived and detained them — leaving the sheet partially waving in the wind.

The trio — two are in their 30s and one is in her 20s — are in custody at the NYPD's 5th Precinct's station house in Chinatown. Charges are pending, a police spokesman said.
