Acclaimed LES Sandwich Shop Not Closing After All: Report

A mysterious patron has swooped in to keep the quirky sandwich shop up and running.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — An unknown backer has swooped in to keep renowned molecular gastronomy chef Dewey Dufresne's gourmet sandwich shop, BYGGYZ, up and running, reported Grubstreet.

The shop will not shutter on July 1 — as previously announced — but instead will exclusively operate on weekends. Starting on July 7, BYGGYZ at 37-39 Clinton Street will shutter on weekdays and reopen from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, the shop's manager explained to the website.

“We plan to treat the actual restaurant like a brick-and-mortar pop-up,” Rachael Carron, the shop’s manager and partner told Grubstreet.

Carron told the website that the restaurant is still looking for investors, but in the meantime aims to beef up its menu with sandwiches on gluten-free bread and in breadless bowl form.

Originally, BYGGYZ was slated to close on July 1. The food masterminds behind the shop still plan to hawk nosh at both the Williamsburg and Prospect Park Smorgasburg locations.
