Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. Assamad Nash, the man accused of murdering Christina Yuna Lee in her Chinatown apartment, was indicted on criminal charges yesterday. The 25-year-old Nash did not appear in court when prosecutors indicted him on charges of murder and burglary as a sexually motivated felony. If Nash is convicted of first-degree murder, then he would face life in prison without parole. (Patch)
  2. Hundreds of people, most of them Asian women, formed a line around the block over the weekend in Chinatown to acquire pepper spray. The New York based nonprofit, Soar Over Hate distributed roughly 1,000 kits to women. Many are living in fear for their safety and well-being in light of the frightening recent spike in violent crimes. (The Independent)
  3. P&T Knitwear will be the latest bookstore to call the Lower East Side home. The new Orchard Street venue will occupy the 3,000 square foot space below the Hotel Indigo. The bookstore will feature an events amphitheater and a free podcast studio for community use and is slated to open in May. (Bowery Boogie)
