Manhattan Bridge Car Fire Shuts Down Lanes, Causes Subway Delays: UPDATES

A taxi cab reportedly burst into flames Tuesday afternoon on the upper level of the Manhattan Bridge.

LOWER MANHATTAN, NY — A car burst into flames on the upper level of the Manhattan Bridge around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, shutting down all Brooklyn-bound lanes on the bridge's upper level and causing subway delays, according to city officials. There were no injuries reported early on, an FDNY spokesman said.

The car that caught fire appeared to be a yellow cab, according to a tweet from the residents association for Two Bridges Tower (an apartment complex located near the Manhattan side of the bridge).

All Brooklyn-bound lanes on the bridge's upper level were closed for more than an hour Tuesday afternoon while the FDNY responded to the fire, according to NYC's Emergency Management Department. The lanes were reopened around 2:42 p.m., the department said.
