Off-duty NYPD Traffic Agent Arrested After Fatal Car Crash: Police

Amanda Miner, of Williamsburg, was killed on Thursday in a car crash on the Manhattan side of the Williamsburg Bridge, police said.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — An off-duty NYPD employee was arrested after he crashed a car while allegedly driving drunk Thursday morning, killing one passenger and injuring himself and another, police said.

Amanda Miner, 21, was killed in the crash early Thursday on the Manhattan side of the Williamsburg Bridge. Authorities' initial investigation suggests that Stefan Hoyte, an NYPD traffic enforcement agent, was driving a car across the bridge before he struck a median in the roadway and then a support pillar, police said. Miner, who was seated in the rear of the car, was "ejected" from the car, police said in a statement. Emergency responders pronounced Miner, a Williamsburg resident, dead at the scene of the crash. Police responded to the crash at about 3:15 a.m. on Thursday.

Video taken by another driver on the bridge shows pieces of Hoyte's car strewn throughout the roadway.

Hoyte, 26, and another passenger were both taken to Bellevue Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Police said they were listed in stable condition.

Hoyte has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, speeding, and driving drunk, police said in a statement. Hoyte allegedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.08. In New York state, a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher is evidence of intoxication.
