Chihuahua Dumped In Lower East Side Trash Compactor, NYPD Says
A chihuahua was found abandoned in a trash compactor on the Lower East Side, police said.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — A chihuahua was found abandoned in a Lower East Side trash compactor and police say they're offering a $2,500 reward for information on who dumped it. The animal was found inside a crate by a NYCHA worker outside an apartment building at 45 Jackson St.
The worker heard barking coming from inside the container on March 30, an NYPD spokeswoman told Patch. He found the dog called police, who brought it to the ASPCA, police said.
The ASPCA said in a statement that the chihuahua, now named Izzy, is a female and is believed to be between one and four years old. Izzy is still receiving medical care at the ASPCA's animal hospital in Manhattan.

The NYPD announced the $2,500 reward on Wednesday. The department can be contacted at 1-800-577-TIPS.
