Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. The city has a new proposal to protect the Financial District and Seaport from flooding. The plan would extend the eastern edge of Manhattan's tip by 188 feet, while raising the shoreline and possibly lowering the elevated portion of the FDR between the Brooklyn Bridge and Battery Park. The city’s Economic Development Corporation plans to reveal a master plan for the project by the end of the year. (amNY)
  2. The owner of the Lower East Side eatery, Diller, has struggled to keep his restaurant staffed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mike Garlic founded the restaurant on 2019, and lost five employees during the pandemic who never came back to work. Garlick is just one of many local small business owners who have struggled due to the pandemic. (WPIX 11 New York)
