Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- The NYPD is searching for a group of people who attacked and robbed a man in Corlears Hook Park earlier this week. The group approached the 51-year-old victim around 7:45 p.m. on Monday and proceeded to punch and strike him with an unknown object before stealing his iPhone and fleeing to 626 Water St. The victim was treated for minor injuries, while the suspects remain at large. (WPIX 11 New York)
- The famous statue of Vladimir Lenin on a Norfolk Street rooftop has been lit up blue and yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian flag. The mysterious art piece has been a staple of the neighborhood for decades, and now someone has taken the time to show solidarity with Ukraine. This represents the latest in a number of local landmarks that have been lit up in support of Ukraine. (Time Out)
- Council member Christopher Marte announced a new sanitation initiative, the "New Dawn on Delancey," which will set out to clean the north side of the high-traffic street. The city has signed a contract with the Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless (ACE) to expand its street cleaning services to the neighborhood. ACE provides job training and employment opportunities to people experiencing homelessness. (Bowery Boogie)
