Here are the top stories in Lower East Side-Chinatown today:

  1. The East River Park climate change resiliency project, which was slated to break ground in the spring, is yet to be underway. The controversial $1.45 billion project is the first of its kind in New York City, and has been faced by firm resistance by activist groups, namely East River Park Action. The delay displays a general lack of trust and transparency between all parties involved, while all can agree that resiliency in the face of climate change is essential. (Spectrum News NY1)
  2. Team Charlie Bird is planning to expand its popular Hell's Kitchen wine shop into a new location at 135 Division. Parcelle Wine, located in the Henry Hall apartment building, plans to open a wine bar carrying the same name at the Division Street location. The wine bar will feature a collaborative menu with select local establishments such as The Pickle Guys, Russ & Daughters, and Aqua Best. (Bowery Boogie)
  3. Anne Saxelby, a pioneer in the Independent Cheese Industry, died at 40. The founder of Saxelby Cheesemongers began her career at the Essex Street Market, before expanding into an additional location in Chelsea. The renowned cheesemonger is remembered for specifically championing American-made cheeses. (Eater)
