Here are the top stories in Lower East Side-Chinatown today:
- The NYPD detectives' union filed an ethics complaint against assembly member Yuh-Line Niou after her actions on Twitter regarding the NYPD. Niou took to Twitter to voice her anger over a video showing NYPD officers maskless in a subway station and supported the claim that these officers were stealing subway fares. She proceeded to "like" a meme that seemingly compared NYPD officers at the funeral procession for slain officer Jason Rivera to a Nazi rally. (New York Daily News)
- The president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York joined many Lower Manhattan residents in opposing the Open Restaurants program. The media advisory sent a strong message regarding the dangers that the temporary, often haphazardly constructed dining shed pose concerning fire safety. The Council’s Committee on Worker Protection and Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises held a remote public hearing yesterday to discuss the future of the program. (Bowery Boogie)
