Pearl River Mart, Manhattan's Iconic Asian Emporium, Re-Opens in Tribeca Thursday

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature a Chinese lion dance performance and words from local leaders.

After closing in March due to a massive rent hike, Pearl River Mart — a family-owned business that has served New Yorkers for over 45 years — will celebrate its return to downtown Manhattan with a November 17 grand opening ceremony for its new flagship store in Tribeca. The event will feature a traditional Chinese lion dance performance, ribbon-cutting and notable guests.

This next chapter of Pearl River will be led by the owners’ daughter-in-law, Joanne Kwong, an Ivy League-educated attorney who recently stepped down as Counsel to the President at Barnard College, to take over the family business. As the new President of Pearl River Mart, Kwong plans to modernize its retail experience and expand its e-commerce capabilities. Her in-laws will continue to serve as advisors.
