Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. A group of robbers entered Juice Press on Rivington Street through the basement of the adjacent Hotel on Rivington. The thieves entered the establishment around 6 a.m. on Jan. 19 and made off with several hundred dollars. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have yet been made. (Bowery Boogie)
  2. A local letterpress printing shop has fallen on hard economic times, but neighbors are determined to help them stay in business. Y.H. Printing is one of the last of its kind in the city, and once operated through a handful of locations. A community GoFundMe campaign was able to raise over $20,000 in just two days. (Bowery Boogie)
  3. The impending demolition of the Manhattan Detention Complex has threatened local art installations, namely Kit-Yin Snyder's piece "Judgement." Snyder’s work, along with a set of murals by artist Richard Haas, must be removed in order to begin construction. “Judgment” will go before the Public Design Commission at its February hearing in hopes of finding a new location for the installation.
