Lady Gaga's Favorite Yoga Studio Closes After 13 Years

Lady Gaga frequented Bikram Yoga on the Lower East Side.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — The longtime Lower East Side yoga studio Bikram Yoga has closed after 13 years.

The spacious studio, located at 172 Allen St., closed this month, but will soon reopen under a partnership with the London-based studio Fierce Grace Yoga, Bowery Boogie was first to report.

Bikram Yoga has attracted a dedicated following over its 13 years, and has counted popstar Lady Gaga among its most dedicated clients.

The LES studio began struggling after an unsafe gas line in its building caused the studio to close for several weeks in April. The studio's owner, Tricia Donegan, launched a GoFundMe asking for help raising $45,000 to keep the studio open.

"As many of you know, Bikram Yoga Lower East Side fell into financial crisis in April, 2017, after inspectors found serious safety issues involving the gas lines at 172 Allen St.," Donegan wrote in post on her website. "As I faced imminent closure, many of you encouraged me to put out a GoFundMe to help save our studio. The response was overwhelming. Without this community, we wouldn’t have a studio. This studio has always focused on building community, and that won’t ever change. I really couldn’t be more grateful."

Donegan said Bikram Yoga would closed, but in its place a new yoga studio would open in a partnership between Donegan and Fierce Grace.

Now, Bikram Yoga is closed, but it'll be replaced by a new branch of the international yoga studio chain Fierce Grace. The new studio is scheduled to open next week.

Gaga has previously said that she frequented Bikram Yoga when she was a student at New York University.

"This is her home studio," Donegan told DNAinfo in 2010. "It's where she came before she was famous and where she came after she was famous."
