Here are the top stories in Lower East Side-Chinatown today:

  1. A man accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend in a November 2021 shooting on the Lower East Side has been brought back to New York to face murder charges. 28-year-old Dennis Applewhite was arrested in Bogota, N.J. on the same night that he shot 27-year-old Brittani Duffy at the Vladeck Houses on Madison Street. (Yahoo News)
  2. Police appealed to the public on Monday for help finding 37-year-old Lamar Johnson who was reported missing. Johnson was last seen on Sunday morning leaving his home at 340 Cherry St. Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. (Patch)
  3. The NYC-based organization Breaking Ground has teamed up with the Harlem-based Center for Urban Community Services to provide bi-monthly Narcan training to the city's homeless population. Training will take place at The Lee, a transitional housing building on the Lower East Side. Narcan nasal spray is a vitally important resource to stop overdoses. (CBS New York)
  4. The community-led lawsuit to block the Open Restaurant program, and the street sheds that have sprung up because of it, has been approved to proceed. Judge Frank Nervo of the Supreme Court denied the city's motion to dismiss the lawsuit, citing their arguments as "inappropriate." This motion represents a large victory for community leaders and residents who wish to see the Open Restaurants program dissolve. (Bowery Boogie)
