Police have arrested a man who they say tried to rape a woman as she entered her Lower East Side home.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — Police have arrested a 41-year-old man and charged him with the attempted rape of a Lower East Side woman, police said on Saturday.
According to the police account, Robert Adames followed a woman into her apartment near the intersection of Norfolk and Rivington streets on March 3 just after midnight. Police said Adames shoved the woman through the door and groped her before attempting to remove her clothing. When the woman resisted, Adames fled the building. Officers identified Adames later in March using surveillance footage before arresting him on Saturday.
Adames was charged with attempted rape, sex-motivated burglary, forcible touching, sexual abuse and criminal trespass, police said in a statement.
