Man Dumped Lighter Fluid On Woman While Robbing LES Store: NYPD

Police arrested a robber who dumped lighter fluid on a jewelry store employee, authorities said.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — A robber doused a woman in lighter fluid and threatened her with a lighter on Saturday while robbing a jewelry store on the Lower East Side, police said.

Officers arrested Kevin Scurry shortly after he robbed the Yaf Sparkle Jewelry Boutique, 158 Orcahrd St., according to the NYPD.

Police said that Scurry entered the boutique on Saturday at about 3 p.m. and asked to see a piece of jewelry. When a store employee handed him a ring, he threw lighter fluid on her and held up a lighter, according to the criminal charges filed against him.

Scurry then grabbed additional jewelry before running from the store, police said.

Scurry was arrested shortly after the incident and is facing robbery charges.

Patch was not immediately able to contact Scurry's defense attorney on Tuesday morning.
