Man Steals 31K Worth Of Jewelry, Electronics From Lower East Side

A burglar is on a hot streak in the Lower East Side and Chinatown.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — Police are searching for a burglar who busted into a slew of Lower East Side and Chinatown apartments, and made off with thousands in jewelry and electronics, authorities said.

The thief's spree spans three months, kicking off May 15 when he forced his way into a 59-year-old man's apartment near Doyers and Bowery streets. Officials said he managed to make off with $3,000 worth of electronics before fleeing the building.

His next target came later that day in Murray Hill near Madison Avenue and East 30th Street. The robber broke into a 62-year-old man's apartment and ran off with an undetermined amount of cash. The next caper didn't occur until June 28 back in the Lower East Side near Pell and Bowery streets where the man made his way inside a 30-year-old woman's home and fled with $7,600 in jewelry, police said.

His fourth hit was near Mosco and Mulberry streets on July 17 when he broke into a 33-year-old woman's apartment and stole a whopping $21,000 worth of jewels. The next heist was less profitable, earning the thief just $300 only July 23 after he forced his way into a 22-year-old man's Chinatown apartment near Baxter and Canal streets, police said.

Lastly, the burglar tried to raid another Chinatown apartment near Baxter and Canal streets on July 25 but turned up empty handed.

Police describe the looter as approximately 30-to-40-years-old, with a stocky build and stands between five-foot-six and five-foot-eight.
