🌱 Marte Sets Sights On Rezoning + Robbing At Bowery Station

Here are the top stories in Lower East Side-Chinatown today:

1. Incoming councilmember Christopher Marte is gearing up for his fight for Chinatown rezoning. Marte said his central focus will be implementing the rezoning proposed by a grassroots organization named the Chinatown Working Group in 2013, which would help preserve the affordability of the neighborhood by creating a "special district." The plan would protect resident by placing height limits on new developments and create zoning laws that would require affordable housing. (AMNY)
2. Famed dim sum hall Jing Fong will return at a new location. Almost a full year since its closing, the eatery will reopen at 202 Centre St. The new establishment will feature 100 seats for dining, a fraction of the enormous 800 seats boasted at the former location. (Eater NY)
3. Police are looking for a suspect who robbed a man on a Lower East Side train platform. Two 20 year olds, a man and a woman, were at the Bowery subway station when they were approached by the unknown man. The suspect pulled out a black object, threatened to shoot them, and demanded that they give him their money before making off with a gold chain. (AMNY)
