Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- Councilmembers Christopher Marte and Erik Bottcher led their colleague Marjorie Velasquez on a tour of Greenwich Village's so called "Shed City," last Thursday prior to a key vote on the future of the city's outdoor dining sheds. Of the city's 12,000 pandemic-emergency roadway sheds, about 1,300 are located in Bottcher's District 3, while Marte's district is home to 1,050. The local lawmakers were joined by members of local community organizations CUEUP, and LES Dwellers. (The Village Sun)
- Nearly seven years since its construction, the Clinton Street Bike Lane is receiving some much-needed enhancement. The Department of Transportation began installing concrete barriers along the bike path in order to increase safety for cyclists. (Bowery Boogie)
- More than 100 people lined up outside of the Ukrainian diner Veselka on Saturday to show their support for the nation at war with Russia. Owner Jason Birchard noted that many of his "staff members are Ukrainian. Everyone is up all night, talking to family members. Some are so distraught; they can't even come to work." One customer, a 29-year-old Ukrainian-born medical technician, noted that Veselka is a very special place to New York's Ukrainian community. (Daily Mail)
