NY 7th Congressional District Results: Nydia Velázquez Wins

Nydia Velázquez has served in the House since 1993 and easily cruised to victory.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — Incumbent Democrat Rep. Nydia Velázquez will return to the House for a fourteenth term representing New York's 7th Congressional District.

Velázquez, whose district includes the Lower East Side and parts of Brooklyn and Queens, easily defeated Reform candidate Jeff Kurzon — who was unfamiliar with the party until it asked him to run — and Conservative candidate Joseph Lieberman in an unsurprising result, according to city Board of Elections data.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting in, Velázquez took 93.4 percent of the vote compared to Lieberman's 5.5 percent and Kurzon's 1.1 percent, Board of Elections data shows.
