Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. Concerned Chinatown residents have rallied in opposition to a proposed homeless shelter on East Broadway. The opposition staged a protest that drew nearly 400 people, after an initial rally was held last Wednesday. Residents are growing concerned about a lack of community involvement in the planning of the shelter. (Bowery Boogie)
  2. Owners of the Puerto Rican restaurant “Casa Adela” in Loisaida, are demanding a fair settlement to avoid a 480 percent increase in rent. The administrators of the building are threatening to increase the rent from $1,35o to about $6,750 after the contract had expired. (Central Valley Business Journal)
  3. Anthony Mangieri, owner of Una Pizza Napoletana on Orchard Street, has announced a holiday panettone pop-up event at his restaurant. The event will also serve as an introduction to Caffè Napoletana, Mangieri's planned daytime eatery. The event will run on Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Grub Street)
