Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- Amid the ongoing litigation and disputes, New York City took a major step towards making outdoor dining permanent. On Monday, the City Planning Commission voted unanimously for a zoning text amendment that will create a clean slate for the city to develop and regulate a permanent program. This amendment will theoretically allow even more restaurants to set up outdoor dining spaces in the future, as well as loosens the existing restrictions on establishments that have already utilized outdoor dining spaces. (Gothamist)
- Tragic news as a construction worker fell to his death from the Manhattan Bridge while painting a section of the bridge. He landed on the ground near the FDR Drive on the Manhattan side of the bridge. The bridge’s lower level was closed to traffic while police investigated. (AP News)
