Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer is putting pressure on the Parks Department to address issues surrounding the Sara D. Roosevelt Park. Two stabbings over a 12-hour period highlight the decrepit and dangerous state of the Lower East Side park. Many feel that the lack of infrastructural upgrades that have been promised in years past to be a root cause for the state of the park. (Bowery Boogie)
  2. Author Frank Mastropolo's new book titled "Fillmore East: The Venue That Changed Rock History," provides an oral history of the infamous Lower East Side venue. Ninety musicians and crew members recount their first hand experiences in the publication. The book also boasts dozens of performance photos. (NYSMusic)
  3. A group of 22 New York City residents — some from the Lower East Side — have filed a lawsuit attempting to block the Open Restaurants program from becoming permanent. Originally implemented to assist local eateries from suffering through the pandemic, the program has recently come under fire for various "quality-of-life nightmares." Mayor Bill de Blasio recently announced that outdoor dining would become a permanent fixture of the city's landscape. (Gothamist)
