Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- Chinatown community members, and members of the community group Safewalks, held a vigil in remembrance of Christina Lee outside of her Chrystie Street apartment building. The founder of Safewalks, Peter Kerre told PIX 11 News that they were there "to pay our respects and further the wishes of Lee’s family to do as much as we can to keep people safe." Safewalks was founded last year in Bushwick as a volunteer group that offers accompanied walks to and from home for those who feel unsafe. (WPIX 11 New York)
- Construction has topped out at 63 Pitt St., a 12-story residential building on the Lower East Side. The development will yield 56,589 square feet of residential space across 59 apartments. Construction is expected to be completed during the summer of 2022. (New York YIMBY)
- Final touches are underway on the Tin Building in the South Street Seaport District. The 3-story commercial market building will host a seafood-themed market by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The building is expected to be complete and operational within the next few months. (New York YIMBY)
