Senior Housing In Chinatown Renovated

Renovated senior housing opens in Chinatown at 50 Norfolk St.

CHINATOWN, NY — A local nonprofit unveiled a newly renovated senior home in Chinatown on Wednesday, part of the organization's larger work to provide stable, affordable housing for New York City's growing senior population.

The Chinese-American Planning Council hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the building on Wednesday morning. The refreshed housing center, Hong Ning Housing for the Elderly, has 155 units. CPC unveiled the renovated center, located at 50 Norfolk St., along with the Chinatown Planning Council Housing Development Fund Company and United Health Care

"We’re excited to unveil these improvements that will benefit the lives of the seniors in the community," Wayne Ho, CPC's president, said in a statement. "Hong Ning Housing for the Elderly can serve as a model of low-cost housing for seniors across New York City."

The updated building has provided additional space for recreational activities, new elevators and a remodeled kitchen.

The renovated building is just doors down from Beth Hamedrash Hagadol, the abandoned Lower East Side synagogue that was destroyed in a fire last month.
